Walter Allen Flint

Walter A. Flint, 80, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 17, 1938 in Eddyville, Nebraska to James Clifton and Ada E. (Hopkins) Flint. Walter grew up in Eddyville where he attended school. Walter was united in marriage Verna Mae Hagan on May 16, 1966, at the Elwood Methodist Church. Five children were blessed to this union; Patricia, Sandra, Cheryl, Kent and Walter “James”, and two children by her previous marriages, Paula and Vicky. Walter and Verna lived in Lexington for many years where Walter worked as a mechanic and truck driver. They then settled in Elwood where they have lived for the past twenty five years. Verna preceded him in death on May 9, 2008. Walter was a “tinkerer” and could fix about anything. He enjoyed being a mechanic and in his younger years worked on stock cars. He was an avid old tractor collector, he enjoyed dancing and fishing. He loved being outdoors and his family called him a lawn care fanatic. Survivors include his children, Patricia (Lewis) Tate of Bertrand, Paula Osborn of Corvallis, Oregon, Sandra Flint of Smithfield, Cheryl (Larry Jr.) White of Bertrand, Kent Flint of Bertrand and Walter “James” (LeeAnn) Flint of Elwood; two brothers, Charles (Vicky) Flint of Overton and Gary (Cindy) Flint of Lexington; five sisters, Bonnie Flint of Kearney, Peggy Sarr of Elwood, Betty (Jack) Hinds of Lexington, Patsy Fisher of Atkinson and Dana (Marv) Thornburg of Lexington; sisters-in-law, Carol Hopkins of Soldotna, Alaska and Evelyn Flint of Shickley; twenty two grandchildren and thirty six great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Verna Mae; daughter, Vicky Shirley; sisters, Nancy Grayek and Donna Flint; brothers, Jim Flint and Ralph “Hoppy” Hopkins; brothers-in-law, Ed Sarr and Larry Grayek. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Anne Gahn, officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
