Verne Orrin Hamar, 75, of Lexington, Nebraska, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at his home. He was born January 16, 1944 in Lexington, Nebraska to Orrin and Vera (Batie) Hamar. Verne attended country school in Lexington at District North 22 and 7 until the family moved to Oconto where he attended Oconto Public School graduating with the class of 1963. Verne farmed with his father and worked for Johnson Fencing in Oconto after graduating from High School. He moved to Lexington in the fall of 2003 and worked at Walmart as a greeter and later as a maintenance worker before retiring in 2014. Verne was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington and a past member of Lions Club in Oconto and Oconto Volunteer Fire Department. He loved playing cards, marbles, cribbage, Sudoku, watching games shows and sporting events on television. Survivors include his brother, Dwayne Hamar of Nunn, Colorado; sisters, Margery Wamser of Edgewater, Colorado, Ruth Shiltz of WaKeeney, Kansas and Marie (Kenneth) Wellmann of Lexington, Nebraska; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles (JoAnn) Devine of Kearney, Nebraska; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Verne was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Devine; brothers-in-law, William G. Shiltz and Carl Wamser; sister-in-law, Cindi Hamar; one niece and three great nephews. Funeral Services will be on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Anne Gahn, officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2019 from 5-6 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. The casket will be closed at the Church. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery near Eddyville, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to Oconto Community Center or First United Methodist Church in Lexington.
