Velma Lorene Jones, 90, of Silsbee, Texas, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Silsbee.
She was born July 8th, 1931 in Mead, Oklahoma to Jewell (Holder) and T.E. Myers. She lived there as a young child and then in her teenage years she moved to Denton, Texas where she graduated high school with the class of 1950.
Lorene then moved to New Mexico where she made her home and worked at the telephone office as a long distance operator. From there she moved to Nebraska, where she met her husband, Charles “Chuck” Jones and was united in marriage on Jul 21st, 1951. To this union three children born: Don, Becky and Terry. In Nebraska she worked at West Side Care Center as a CSM and med nurse and also worked at Karre’s City Bakery in Lexington.
Lorene enjoyed playing softball, bowling, bingo, watching her old western movies on the television, receiving greeting cards in the mail, and volunteering at day care. She loved spending time with family and friends and working in her flower garden along by her side her best friend, (dog) JoJo. She also loved Husker football, Kansas City Royals baseball team and living in Nebraska.
She is survived by her children, Don and wife Lupe Rios of West Palm Beach, Florida, Becky and husband Darrell Fenner of Silsbee, Texas and Terry and wife Ruby of Honolulu, Hawaii. She was blessed with six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene Myers of Minden and Don Myers of Kearney; sister, Polly Clayborn of Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Jones; parents, Jewell Haney and T.E. Myers; mother and father-in-law, Ada and Blacky Hyslop; brother, Charlie and wife, Barb Myers (2nd wife), Marlene Meyers Woliverby (first wife); brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dub Hamilton and Margie (Hamiliton) Black; Bev Myers, Sam Posey, and Jake Clayborn. I will see you all in heaven.
There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Lorene’s wish for cremation. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Dave LeRaaen, officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Hewitt Cemetery north of Lexington.
A memorial has been established in Lorene’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
