Thelma Grace Snell

September 8, 1935 — February 20, 2018

Thelma Grace (Sack) Snell, 82, passed from this life February 20, 2018, in Lexington, Nebraska, following a brief illness.   Born in Haxtun, Colorado, September 8, 1935, to Roy and Hazel (Cole) Sack, she was the third of six children. When Thelma was 5 years old, the family moved to Longmont, Colorado. She began her schooling in a country school and graduated from Longmont High School in 1953. Christianity and faith played a significant part in Thelma’s life from an early age, with active involvement in church and her decision to become a Christian by being immersed into Christ. Following high school, she enrolled in Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City. There she met a young Bible college student who was studying for the ministry, and on August 22, 1954, she and Richard Harvey Snell were married. She taught Sunday school, played piano, helped in church camps and followed her preacher husband all over the country to serve in churches. Together, Richard and Thelma brought many to Christ and encouraged Christians in Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Ohio, Wyoming and Indiana.   Thelma was a godly mother to four children. Mike (Shirley) Snell of Lexington, Lauren (Donnetta) Snell of North Platte, Karen (Merle) Pope of Topeka, Kansas, and Tim (Mindy) of Louisville, Kentucky. She delighted in taking care of her family and made home and faith her priority. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing quilts for her 16 grandchildren. Many of her 18 great grandchildren were blessed with handmade gifts or enjoyed tea parties with great-grandma. Thelma took great pleasure in being a homemaker and showing hospitality to many. She baked pies, cookies and cinnamon rolls by the dozens for others. Many remember her as a hard worker and a cheerful soul. She laughed often and found hilarity in practical jokes on others.   Thelma was preceded in death by husband, Richard Snell (2014), her parents and brothers, Floyd and Wendell.   She is survived by all her children and grandchildren, her brothers, Stanley and Sherman, and sister, Sharon Karlstrum.   Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel.   Funeral services will be Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:30 am at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Nathan Rhea officiating.   Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.   Memorial donations are suggested to “The Richard and Thelma Snell Christian Ekklesia Fund”.   Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
