Ted Teruo Kanda, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Avamere in Lexington. Ted was born September 1, 1926 in Lexington to Tokuichi (Jim) and Hatsuyo (Kawamoto) Kanda, he was one of seven boys. Ted attended school in Lexington growing up and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1945. After high school Ted had an opportunity to attend Kearney State College but the family needed him to attend to the family farm. Ted also was willing to serve his country but was not able to enlist due to a medical problem. Ted spent all of his working days farming the family farm, retiring in1991. Ted always said that his love was farming the land. Ted’s brother Ken suffered a stroke in 1976 and Ted would then be a caretaker for his brother. Ted was never married but considered his nieces and nephews “his kids”. Survivors include two brothers: Dr. Masami Kanda of Denver, Colorado and George and wife Faye Kanda of Brighton, Colorado. Eleven nieces and nephews, eight-teen great nieces and nephews and four-teen great-great nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Yasuo, Sam, Ken and Todd. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor James McCrickard, officiating. There will be no visitation, the casket will be open prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Dawson County Historical Museum, Heartland Military Museum or Central Plains Hospice.
