Sunya Peters-Kash

Sunya Peters-Kash passed away Jan. 11, 2021 in Tampa, Fla. Born April 28, 1929 in Evanston, Ill, she was the only child of Neil and Alice Cole.She grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska (1950) where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. In 1950, Sunya and Darrel Peters wed and then moved to Chicago for his studies at the University of Chicago Theological Seminary. In 1952, they returned to farm in Dawson County, prior to buying their own farm in 1957 near Arnold, where they remained until his death in 1995. Sunya lived in Lexington for several years before joining her youngest daughter and husband in Florida in 2016. Sunya volunteered as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and attended Arnold United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Sunya was an advocate of the arts and humanities and enjoyed being a docent for the North Platte Art Study League. Sunya and Darrel hosted numerous Rotary International Exchange students and maintained contact with them through the decades. She enjoyed playing bridge and was quick to make a new group of friends in Tampa who played each week until the pandemic. Sunya is remembered as having a vibrant personality to match her name, and as an excellent cook and hostess who welcomed happy gatherings around the dining room table. Sunya was predeceased by a son, David John as well as her husbands Darrel Peters, Milton Hoffman, and Louis Kash. She is survived by daughters Cynthia (John) Timmermier of Kennard; Melanie (Lane) Chesley of Callaway; and Stephanie (Charlie) Delp of Tampa. Fla.; granddaughter Meredith (Jaycob) O'Hanlon and grandson Dylan Chesley; and great-granddaughter Ever Lillian O'Hanlon. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Humanities Nebraska. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 23, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Pastor Eddie Mariel, Officiating.
