Sue Barnes, 75, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Kearney Regional Medical Center. She was born March 15, 1943, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Clarence and Margarite (Hunt) Carr. Sue attended school in Kearney. Sue moved from Cozad, Nebraska to Lexington in 1966.  She was united in marriage to Lawrence “Squirt” Barnes on June 8, 1968, at the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington, Nebraska.  Sue had many jobs throughout her life and always stayed busy.  She was a waitress at the Eagles Club, Norm’s, Blue Lounge and Vet’s Club.  She did upholstery work at Bissels in Kearney, worked at Reach Electronics for ten years, she was a CNA at Westside Care Home in Lexington and spent the last twenty years as the Head Cook at Morton Elementary school in Lexington where the students adored her, and the teachers loved her salad bar.   Sue made many lifelong friends throughout the years working these jobs and you always knew where you stood with Sue. The family has many happy memories growing up, such as going camping, fishing and family vacations. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, cooking and cheering on the Nebraska Cornhusker football team.  Sue was also an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling with her team for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. Survivors include her children; Brent Barnes of Denton, Nebraska, Brian (Caprice) Barnes of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carrla (C.J.) Rich of Belton, Texas, Paula Fetter of Tullahoma, Tennessee and Viki (Mark) Hurlburt of Greenville, South Carolina; one brother, Clarence (Mary Lou) Carr of Broken Bow, Nebraska; one sister, Lila (Dennis) Beenblossom of Gothenburg, Nebraska; Nineteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Aunt Sue and her children appreciated the care and support she received from Sheila, Kandy, Denise and Jim. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Squirt, son, Ed; grandson, Rusty; brother, Bob; two sisters, Veva and Claire. Services will be held Monday, April 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor William Ohlmann, officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lexington Public School Lunch Program. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
