Ruth Ann Lif, 76, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Ruth was born December 5, 1941, in Hampton, Nebraska to Gordon and Olga (Christensen) Bigger. She was a 1960 graduate of Aurora High School in Aurora, Nebraska, and a graduate of Grand Island School of Business in 1961. This is where she met the love of her life, Donald. Her working years consisted of Northwestern Public Service for 6 years in Grand Island. The family then moved to Lexington in 1974, where Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for Stoll-Lerdall Construction. In 1985, she found herself in the Accounting office of Walmart for the next 30 years. She retired in 2015. Ruth was a 60+ member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, was a past gymnastics helper when Lesa was young, as well as helping Don with boy scouts when Galen was a boy. She was also a past member of the Nebraska Children’s Home Society Mother’s Club. Ruth loved working in the yard, her flowers, walking, quilting, sewing, baking, and being with family and friends. She always had a smile, and a kind word for everyone she came in contact with. She will be so very missed. Ruth is survived by her husband of almost 56 years; Donald of Lexington, Nebraska; son, Galen (Lisa) Lif of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Lesa (David) Gates of Parkville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Austin & Olivia Gates, and Samantha Lif; one brother, Gordon (Sharon) Bigger, Jr. of Grand Island, Nebraska; as well as extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Anne Gahn officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Friday, February 23, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington at 106 W. 8th St. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Children’s Home, Dawson County Relay for Life, or the Donor’s Choice.
