July 31, 1926 — March 4, 2025

Lexington

Ruth Renee Hendricks, 98, of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Ridgeway Senior Living in Lexington.

She was born on July 31, 1926, in Buffalo, New York, to Julius W. and Hazel D. (Dye) Aikin. She attended school in Kenmore, New York and graduated from Kenmore Sr. High School with the class of 1943. After graduation, Ruth worked at a department store in downtown Buffalo when she was set on a blind date with Kenneth Hendricks, and the rest is history! Ruth married Kenneth on February 6, 1944, in Ransomville, New York, and four children were blessed to this union: Bonnie, Kathy, Kenneth “Wayne” and Deb.

Ruth and Kenneth moved back to Nebraska in 1944 to farm near Callaway in the Stop Table area until 1955. In 1957, they made their home in Lexington where Ruth worked as an aide at the Lexington Community Hospital before becoming a surgical technician, eventually transitioning into a career as the materials manager for the Tri-County Hospital before her retirement. Following retirement, the couple traveled extensively, visiting all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, and would often spend their winters in Yuma, Arizona.

Ruth was a caring person who would take on the role of being a motherly figure for others. She enjoyed helping others in any way she could. Her family meant everything to Ruth, and she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping with Kenneth, playing Bingo and working on her crafts.

Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie (Ron) Rowand of Berthoud, Colorado and Deb (Bernie) Petersen of Hartsel, Colorado; brother-in-law, Richard Hendricks of Callaway, Nebraska; grandchildren, Keith (Serena) Sladky, Jim (Dawn) Sladky, and Corrin (Lance) Goudzwaard; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Kenneth; daughter, Kathy; and son, Kenneth “Wayne”.
