Roy S. Bentley, 96, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at his cabin on Johnson Lake.

He was born on March 8, 1928, in Sumner, Nebraska to Shirley and Esther (Knight) Bentley. Roy's family homestead was north of Overton where they ranched. He was baptized and a member of the Overton Methodist Church. He received his education and graduated from Overton High Schools, graduating with the class of 1946.

On July 20, 1947, Roy was inducted into the United States Army. He had basic training at Fort Ord, California before being sent to Japan with the 11th Airborne in January of 1948. Once they returned from Japan, Roy remained stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a Sargent Clerk Typist. Roy proudly served his country and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1950.

Roy met the love of his life in Clarksville, Tennessee, Dorothy Anne "Dottie" Slaughter. They were united in marriage on October 17, 1950, in Clarksville, Tennessee at the Church of Christ. One daughter was blessed to this union: Jana.

They permanently moved to a farmstead northeast of Gothenburg Nebraska in 1954. Roy worked on the family farm with Dottie helping where needed. They moved to Lexington in 1983 to be closer to Roy's mother and take care of the homestead Ranch north of Overton, after his father passed.

In 1976 they purchased a cabin on Johnson Lake and spent the next forty plus summers enjoying boat rides and watching beautiful sunsets.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Jana Dee (Jon) Ivey of Johnson Lake; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie; and sister, Dorothy Hoffins.

A Celebration of Life Service for Roy will be held at a later date at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
