Robert L. "Bob" Hawks, 88, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Lexington Regional Health Center.

He was born on July 16, 1936, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to George and Anna (Bailey) Hawks. Bob's father died when he was 5 years old, and he moved in with the Bailey grandparents. Bob's mother then married Lewis Schultz and moved to Lexington, Nebraska where he attended school. Bob served in the Army from August of 1953 to 1956. On September 4, 1955, Bob married Eugenia Gruber. Two children were blessed to this marriage: Susan and Ann.

After returning to Lexington after the Army, Bob worked at a gas station and for the City of Lexington until he started working at Dawson Public Power from April of 1962 until July of 1998. He worked as a lineman, purchasing agent and operation manager. He was also a member of the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department where he was a first aid chief and taught EMT classes. From 1982 to 1996, Bob was a member of the Lexington City Council and was mayor from 1986 till 1996.  Around this time, he was also on the Board of League Municipalities and served as president from 1994 until 1995. He was also an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He loved camping, fishing, golfing, and traveling. Bob was a true Husker fan, devoting many years to supporting his favorite team and was a long-time season ticket holder. He and Genie wintered in San Diego from 1998 to 2018. Bob and Genie were married for over 65 precious years.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Susan (Glenn) McClintic of San Diego, California, and Ann (Larry) Luther of Panama City Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Alexis (Lukas) Holubek of Kentfield, California, Aaron (Isadora) Luther of New York, New York, Taylor McClintic of Eugene, Oregon, and Ryan McClintic of San Diego, California; half-brothers, Lewis, Jr. (Nancy) Shultz of Cortez, Colorado, Ronnie (Judy) Schultz of Ulysses, Kansas; stepbrothers, Gary (Edna) Schultz of Lexington, Jerry Shultz of Pahrump, Nevada; stepsister-in-law, Audrey Schultz of Manor, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, wife Genie, sister Georgia Ann Tappan, and half-sister Patty Pickering, brother, Glenn (JoAnne) Hawks, stepbrother, Terry Schultz, step sister-in-law, Carole Schultz.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating. Military Honors will follow at the church.

A Private Graveside service will be held prior to the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
