Michael Lee Sutton

May 30, 1949 — March 29, 2019

Michael L. Sutton, 69, of Lexington, died Friday, March 29, 2019 at CHI Good Samaritan in Kearney. Mike was born May 30, 1949 in Hastings, Nebraska, the youngest child of Lester and Evelyn (Fitzke) Sutton. He grew up in Harvard, Nebraska, and was confirmed in 1961 at the Methodist Church. He was a faithful Methodist for 58 years. Mike graduated from Harvard High School in 1968. On September 7, 1968 Mike married Linda Yost at the United Methodist Church in Harvard, and to this union they were blessed with three boys, Barry, Scott and Rustin. Mike attended the National Electronics Institute in Denver, Colorado. After graduation the family moved to Lexington where he worked for Reach Electronics in Sales. During his time with Reach he traveled to 28 foreign countries. Mike also worked at Lexington Co-Op for five years. He then owned his own business of installing and repairing garage doors and openers and repairing windshields. Many memories were made while spending time outdoors fishing, camping, boating, and traveling with the family. There was always a project going on in Mike’s garage. He had a gift for seeing the value in things, like old campers, boats, and cars. One of his favorite pastimes was working on these projects with his boys and Linda. Mike was so proud of his family, and loved following his kids and grandkids to their sporting events, music programs and other activities. His whistle was usually the loudest in the auditorium and his smile the biggest. He loved having his family around him, and especially enjoyed time with his sons, whether on the golf course, snowmobiling, at the lake or sitting around a poker table. Always the practical joker, Mike also enjoyed spending time with friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda; his sons, Barry Sutton of Johnson Lake, Scott (Becca) Sutton of Elkhorn, and Rusty (Kim) Sutton of Lexington; eleven grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua and Megan Sutton of Kearney, Eric, Harper, Cooper and Beckett Sutton of Elkhorn, Madison, Kalli, Abbriel and Camryn Sutton of Lexington; sister, Sally Hankemeier of Fullerton, CA; brother, James Sutton of Valley; also a host of extended family and loved ones. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald and LD Sutton; and granddaughter, Silvi Sutton. A memorial book singing will be held Friday, April 5, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
