Michael Allen Payton, 38, of Callaway, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Callaway District Hospital. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska on January 25, 1981 to Olinka Phillips. He was adopted and raised by Robert A. Payton, Jr. When Michael was young his family moved to Starbuck, Minnesota where he attended elementary school. In 1991, they moved to Callaway, Nebraska where he continued his education and attended Callaway High School. He went on to earn his GED in Grand Island. He then went on to further his education at ITT Technical Institute in Omaha. He enlisted in the United States Army and was medically discharged. Michael moved back to Callaway following his time in the Army to be closer to his parents. He traveled for work spending time in Oklahoma working on an Oil Rig and also worked on an Airport in Chuathbaluk, Alaska. He also worked in Maintenance at Tyson in Lexington and a grocery store in Broken Bow. Michael loved spending time and traveling with his friends. He enjoyed listening to rap music and playing on his playstation. He was an animal lover and liked fast cars. Survivors include his mother, Olinka Payton of Callaway; daughter, Victoria McCarter of Overton; brothers, Evan Phillips of Anchorage, Alaska and Sam Payton of Callaway; sister, Olga (Ben) Borowski of Anchorage, Alaska; one step-brother, Mike (Teri) Payton of Laramie, Wyoming and step-sister, Cathy (Jason) Kleewin of Pueblo, Colorado; niece, Rheya Payton of Callaway; also surviving are aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Payton, Jr. A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Callaway Community Church with Pastor Dean Haidle, officiating. Private burial will be held prior to the service. Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
