Mary C. Williams, 89, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
She was born on December 30, 1934, in Goodrich, Texas to Charley and Sara (Cumings) Broman. The family later moved to Nebraska where Mary attended public school. She graduated from Elm Creek High School with the class of 1954. She then received her Teaching Degree from Kearney Teacher's College. On August 23, 1964, Mary was united in marriage to Gordon Rasmussen. To this union one daughter Christi was born. This marriage would later end in divorce. Mary found love again and was united in marriage to Bill Williams on September 18, 1973, in Bertrand, Nebraska. In 1985, the couple made their home in Johnson Lake, Nebraska.
Mary held many careers in life, from working at Phelps Memorial Health, Peavey Grain, to being a County Superintendent, but the thing she loved doing the most was teaching. She retired in 2007, but it didn't last long, as she began working as a substitute teacher for the Lexington Public Schools and loved every minute of it, eventually retiring again in 2019 at the age of 85. To say Mary was a hardworking woman, was an understatement.
When Mary wasn't working, she was busy following her grandchildren and being their biggest supporter in every single school activity they participated in. When she wasn't on the go, she was often at home working on her sewing projects, playing the piano, and playing card games, or outside in her garden and birdwatching. Mary possessed an unwavering faith and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Chris (David) Fread of Lexington; stepdaughter, Pat (Todd) Rimpley of Lexington; grandchildren, JB (Nikki) Houlden of Omaha, Angie (Chris) Lawn of Sugar Grove, IL, Sam (Chelsea) Fread of Kearney, James (Hannah Blum) Leibhart of Johnson Lake, and Rachael (Joseph) Watts of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, William Houlden, Jaxton Watts, Merric Watts, Kimber Fread, and Brixxon Fread; brothers, Melvin (Lois) Broman of Fairbury, and Arthur Broman of Holdrege, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Williams, sister, Ellen Johnson, brother, Carl Broman, and sister-in-law, Marge Broman, step daughter Cindy.
