Marilyn J. Morrison

July 12, 1941 — February 28, 2025

Coleridge

Marilyn Joyce Morrison, age 83, of O’Neill, died Friday, February 28, 2025, at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska surrounded by family. Marilyn was born on July 12, 1941 in Callaway, Nebraska to Wilson and Clara (Miller) Spangler.

Marilyn grew up and attended country school on the Redfern Table south of Callaway. She graduated from Callaway High School. It was at Callaway High School where she met the love of her life, Fred Morrison. On July 12, 1958, she married Fred in Callaway. As Fred’s working career carried them around central and northern Nebraska, Marilyn made every house they lived in a home. They enjoyed stops in Callaway, Sargent, Broken Bow, Ainsworth, Bassett, Randolph and finally, O’Neill. Beyond being an amazing mom, wife and grandma, Marilyn found ways to help out the family with work outside of the home. She held a variety of jobs ranging from secretary, nursing home arts and crafts coordinator, daycare provider and hospital janitorial staff. Marilyn and Fred served as EMT’s for the Rock County Ambulance Association when they lived in Bassett. While in O’Neill, she volunteered with Beth Tielke to put care packages together for the troops during the Desert Storm war.

Marilyn was kept busy caring for and feeding four boys along the way and was an amazing cook. She was especially known for her pies, which were often requested for local charity fund raisers. Family holidays will never be the same without her pies or her decorated cookies which were works of art. Marilyn had a green thumb and would always have a bountiful garden which she shared with everyone. As if this wasn’t enough, Marilyn’s passion was sewing. She made many quilts and wall hangings to give to her children, grandchildren and others as gifts for graduations or weddings. She also made memory bears for many so they could have something from a deceased relative. Her work was top notch and admired by many. She also enjoyed following the huskers and spent many hours listening to games while sewing. She and Fred enjoyed going to games with her brother Allen when they could.

Survivors include sons, Keith (Alicia) Morrison of Nebraska City, Daniel (Debbie) Morrison of Bassett, Glen (Marcy) Morrison of Omaha, and Dale (Kristin) Morrison of Randolph; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Spangler of Oconto; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Fred (six months ago); by her parents; brothers Irvin and Allen Spangler; great granddaughters, Ember and Estel (Grant and Carly Morrison).

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Callaway Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Karla Sheffy, officiating.

Memorials will be donated to a charity of the family’s choice.
