Margy Ruth Hennek

Margy Ruth Hennek, 83, of Lexington, died Friday, January 11, 2019, at Lexington Regional Health Center. She was surrounded by family leading up to her death.   Margy was born June 17th, 1935, on the family farm in Lincoln County, northwest of Gothenburg, Nebraska, to Alton and Anna (Stevens) Peterson.  Margy attended country school in Gothenburg through eighth grade and graduated with the Gothenburg High School Class of 1951 at the age of 15.  Margy was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Hennek, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington on September 3, 1956.  Seven daughters blessed this marriage: Deb, Kim, Karla, Kyle, Jennifer, Lisa and Lori.   Over the years, she held various positions including Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Dawson County Clerk’s office, co-owner and manager of MarLou’s clothing store, Westside Care Home and Betsy’s Bobbins in Loomis. Margy was also a beautiful seamstress and worked for an interior designer where she helped create and sew many lovely home furnishings. However, she felt her most rewarding job was raising her seven beautiful daughters. Margy’s love for sewing kept her busy through the years as she sewed dresses for all of her daughters for many special occasions and holidays. We feel she was the creator of the new Christmas pajama trend as she created beautiful pajamas for her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren for many years.   After her daughters were raised and left home, she discovered her passion for quilting.  At the time of her death, she had made over 25 quilts plus many additional works of art. This passion has been passed down to her daughters and grand-daughters.  Margy was active in bible studies with family and friends, her Wednesday coffee group and Moving On group. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and putting puzzles together with family.  She also delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great granddaughter in February and another great grandchild in June. Survivors include seven daughters, Deb (Jim) Tuepker of Lexington, Kim Hall (late John Hall) of Omaha, Karla (David) Zlatkovsky of Lexington, Kyle (Mike) Andersen of West Des Moines, IA, Jennifer (David) Bennett of Omaha, Lisa (Craig) Mears of Chandler, AZ and Lori (Kurt) Weinberg of Colorado Springs, CO; four sisters, Virginia (Ray) Rieker, Eustis, Glenda (David) Walker, Eustis, Beverly Drullinger, Overland Park, KS, Karen (Ivan) Vrtiska, Omaha, and three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Peterson, Gothenburg, Joanne Winter, Papillion and Darlene Trautmann, Johnson Lake. Twenty wonderful grandchildren, Beth (Jeff) Daake of Lincoln, Clint Lauby of New York, NY, Jake (Alyx) Zlatkovsky of Lincoln, Danielle (Jake) Hoffmaster of Kearney, Emily (Danny) Ohmes of Shawnee, KS, Ethan Bennett of Omaha, Katie (Dustyn) Good of Columbus, Abbie Hall of Omaha, Matthew Bennett of Omaha, Jennifer Devillier (Barry) of Rockwall, TX, Marcus (Michele) Tuepker of Denver, CO, Chris Hall of Binghampton, NY, Phillip (Angelina) Hall of Boaz, AL, Kevin (Lindsay) Mears of Grapevine, TX,  Kyle (Morgan) Mears of Fort Worth, TX, Chris Mears of Virginia Beach, VA, Dylan Lefler of Ankeny, IA.  Eleven cherished great-grandsons, Jameson and Sutton Daake, Bradley and Parker Ohmes, Miles and Benjamin Tuepker, Austin and Tyler Devillier, Broc, C.J., and Ethan Hall.  Margy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hennek, her parents, Alton and Anna Peterson, one brother, Larry Peterson, three brothers-in-law, Gerald Drullinger, Eugene Hennek and Addison Winter, and two sons-in-law, John Hall and Terry McCoy. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Matt Koperski officiating. The family has honored Margy’s wishes that her body be cremated. A private inurnment will be held prior to the Celebration of Life service at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery.
