Lonnie D. Hawthorne, 85, of Johnson Lake passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020, in Broken Bow. Lonnie was born on January 9, 1935, in Fullerton, Nebraska, to Earl and Ona (Gallagher) Hawthorne. He attended school in Fullerton through the 10th grade, and then moved to Hood River, Oregon. Trucking was his life, as he was an over-the-road driver with Mayflower for 25 years, then was self-employed the rest of his trucking career, Lonnie was blessed to finish his trucking career working for his close friends, John (Stephanie) and TJ Wood from Overton. Lonnie was a gun collector and liked to fish, hunt and play pool. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grand-children. He and his wife, Jackie, moved from Grand Island, Nebraska to Johnson Lake in 1989. She preceded him in death on February 15, 1990. Lonnie then married Debi Gregory on August 13, 1996 in Lexington. Survivors include his wife, Debi Hawthorne of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; a son, Leonard Hawthorne, and step-sons, Steve Shafer, Charles “Jerry” Hawthorne, Dennis Hawthorne and Nathan Menagh; step-daughters, Trinity Seder, Tasha Keeton, Katreena Melo and Cassie Proctor; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Randy (Mary) Hawthorne of Grand Island, Nebraska; and sisters, Linda Debord of Kearney, Nebraska, Twila (Eldie) Stahl of Columbus, Nebraska and Kay Carter of Alma, Nebraska. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jackie Hawthorne; brothers, Leslie Hawthorne and Donald Hawthorne; and step-son, Rick Shafer. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home. Services will be held at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska, on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Rex Adams, officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island, Nebraska. Memorials are designated to the family for later designation.
