LeRoy Henry Sherman, 90, of Lexington, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Elwood Care Center, following closely behind his beloved wife, Rose Marie Sherman, who passed on February 22.
He was born on January 26, 1935, in Lexington, Nebraska to Irving and Elsie (Westmeyer) Sherman. He attended public school in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953. On June 6, 1954, LeRoy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rose Marie Gormley, at the Methodist Church in Gibbon. Three children were blessed into this union: Steven, Brenda and Kevin.
Much like his wife, LeRoy was incredibly active in his community. He was a member of many organizations, including, the Sparerib Club, and Cattleman's Club. He was also a 4-H Leader and was a member of a Pinochle Club for over 50 years. LeRoy was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington and participated in many of their organizations. He was a member of the Presbyterian Mariners as well as serving many years as an Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. He was also a LOGOS volunteer.
When he had some spare time, LeRoy enjoyed spending his days in his garden or just being with his family and watching some Husker sports. In his younger years, he enjoyed going out and square dancing the night away with his sweetheart, Rose Marie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Steven (Terri) Sherman of Lincoln, Brenda (Don) Colvin of Lexington, and Kevin (Brenda) Sherman of Springfield; grandchildren, Matt Sherman, Susan (Akai) Fuller, Colleen Sherman, Laura Sherman, and Scott Sherman; great-grandchildren, Levi Sherman, Madelyn Sherman, Ezra Sherman, Solomon Sherman, Sammi Fuller, Akai Fuller, Jr.; sisters, Thelma Hald of North Platte and Eileen (Murl) Tiede of Elwood; sister-in-law, Jo Sherman of Lexington; brothers-in-law, Don (Dee) Gormley of Granbury, Texas, and Dennis (Dixie) Gormley of Amana, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides his parents, LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Rose Marie Sherman; brother, Dale Sherman; brother-in-law, Dick Hald; nephew, David Hald; and an infant brother.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
A Private Family Burial will be held prior to the memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
