Larry “Hippie” Lee Claussen, 75, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Plum Creek Health Care Community in Lexington. Larry was born October 12, 1942 in Buckingham, Iowa, to Merle & LaWayna (Wrage) Claussen. He attended school in Dinsdale, Iowa, and graduated in 1961. In 1974 he was united in marriage to Connie Newton. Two children were blessed to this marriage, April & Brandon “Butch”. Larry had been living at Johnson Lake since 1975, and then resided in Lexington from 2017, until his death, due to health complications. Larry was a truck driver most of his life; driving for Lange, TFS, Paulsen’s, Justa Trucking, Sellin Trucking, and Nebraska Salt and Grain Trucking Companies. He also worked for Bellamy Farms feeding cattle. For numerous years Larry and his daughter had a lawn mowing business at Johnson Lake. Larry was an avid reader of Louis Lamour and loved watching sports of any kind. He had a distinct whistle and loved talking like Donald Duck. He enjoyed fishing, music, watching westerns and being a part of the Johnson Lake community. Survivors include his daughter, April Claussen of North Platte, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Tristan (Miles) Creel of Bellevue, Nebraska and Jarek Gjesdal of North Platte, Nebraska; one sister, Linda (Larry) Burrage of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived many nieces, nephews, grand- nieces and grand- nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Marcus & Isabelle Claussen & John & Freda Wrage, brother, Kenneth Claussen, sister, Beverly Ladd, son, Brandon “Butch’ Claussen and grandsons Colin & Riley Claussen. It was Larry’s wishes to be cremated and a memorial service will be held in May, 2018, day and time to be announced. Inurnment will be in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery east of Smithfield. Memorials are suggested to the Johnson Lake EMS. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
