Kenneth Leo O'Mara

Eddyville

Kenneth Leo O’Mara (82) of Eddyville, NE passed away at home on February 15, 2025, following a long battle with multiple types of cancer. 

Born on September 9, 1942, Kenneth was the 7th of 8 children born to LouElla (Wheeler) and Earl O’Mara. He spent his childhood on the family homestead in rural Eddyville and then again returned there upon retirement. The in-between years Kenneth pursued higher education starting with a bachelors in elementary education and continuing forward until he obtained his doctorate education administration. He had a true love for education and spent his life learning and teaching others. He believed every moment was a teachable moment.

On May 28, 1966 Kenneth married Sarah (Kinish). From this union Richard, James, and Julie were born. They remained married until Sarah’s death in 2005. Kenneth then met Marjo (Kort) and they were married in 2006 and divorced in 2024. Kenneth was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Rosary in Overton. He served as a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering with them; especially when they served meals. Kenneth was staunchly prolife and in previous years active with Sarah in Nebraska Right Life. In later years he became very active with weekly community dances throughout the central part of the state and served on the board for the Miller Community Dance Hall.

 Kenneth will be missed by his brother Paul of Oley, PA; sister Theresa (Potter) of Witchia Falls, TX; son Richard of Crocker, MO; son James of Sumner, NE; and daughter Julie of Rapid City, SD; granddaughter Jeanie (Stuto) of Bellevue, NE; great grandchildren Afton and Adrian (Stuto) of Bellevue, NE; along with extended family and friends. Kenneth has been reunited with his wife Sarah, father Earl, mother LouElla, brothers Earl J., James, Rodger, Richard; and sister Angie (Heidemann).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton followed by burial at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Eddyville. The casket will be closed.

 Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. The family requests no flowers.
