Judith A. Brass, 76, of Cozad, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Cozad Community Hospital.
Judy was born October 30, 1947, in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Lyle and Katherine (Pokorney) Waffensmith. She attended school in Merna and graduated in 1965. Judy worked for the bomb factory in Grand Island, NE, worked at the Elks Lodge in Broken Bow, Tenneco Automotive in Cozad, Cozad Community Hospital as a cook, and Cozad Community Schools in the cafeteria. Judy married Kenny Brass on February 2, 1974, in Broken Bow, Nebraska. In this marriage union, 2 families were combined that included 7 children: Dave, Donny, Richard, Kathy, Sheri, Brad, and Rhonda.
Judy was a very hard-working woman. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed cooking for all. She was famous for her homemade gravy, cinnamon rolls, buttermilk brownies, and much more. She loved her family and friends fiercely and had a heart of gold. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Dave Brass of Houston, Texas, Donny (Nancy) Brass of Kearney, Richard Brass of Broken Bow, Kathy (John) Tillemans of Broken Bow, Sheri Foster of Bertrand, Brad (Robin) Brass of Overton, and Rhonda (Chris) Barela of Cozad; grandchildren, Kenny and Ryan Brass, Tanner Brass, Michael Brass, Tera (Leroy) Conners, Jay, Cooper, and Lawrence Brass, Elizabeth (Talbot) Menzer, Emma and Elli Foster, Jordan Albus, Tyler Brass, and Slater (Jayden) Barela, and Jake Barela; great-grandchildren include Kameron, Kaden, Kaleb, Kyler, Jersey, Gianna, Jovani, Elliana, Houston, Emmorie, one expected in May 2025, sister-in-law, Barb Strong; as well as many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenny; in-laws, Edward (Ena) Brass; her sister Phyllis (Jim) Markham, and an infant son Scott; brothers-in-law, Delmar (Carol) Brass, Ron (Genevive) Brass, Ed (Nadene) Brass, Larry Brass, and Lynn Strong; nephew, Robert Markham, and her two pride and joy fur babies, Stinker and Max.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds’s Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska, with Lay Minister, Sarah Neben, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds’s Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to the family for a later designation.
