He was born on April 3, 1922, in Cozad, Nebraska to John and Anna E. (Johnson) Johnson.  John attended public schools in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1939.

John was inducted into the United States Army on November 14, 1942, at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and served during WWII.  He was a Staff Sergeant with the Air Corp and was also an MP with the military police.  On November 1, 1945, John was honorably discharged and moved back home.

They had two children, Monte in 1955, and Rebecca in 1964. When they were first married, they lived on the Johnson place east of Cozad and in 1964, bought the farm northeast of Lexington.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was focusing his time on projects around the farm or working on his beloved garden and doing yard work. When he wasn’t busy working outside, he enjoyed spending quality time at the Grand Generation Center and was an avid pool player. John attended the Cozad Church of Christ where he was a former member of the church board. Eventually, he became a regular member of the LexChristian Church. John will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family.
