John C. Johnson, 100, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
He was born on April 3, 1922, in Cozad, Nebraska to John and Anna E. (Johnson) Johnson. John attended public schools in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1939.
John was inducted into the United States Army on November 14, 1942, at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and served during WWII. He was a Staff Sergeant with the Air Corp and was also an MP with the military police. On November 1, 1945, John was honorably discharged and moved back home.
Following the war, he returned to Cozad and was united in marriage to Lola B. Applegate. The couple were married on January 20, 1946, at the Church of Christ in Cozad. They had two children, Monte in 1955, and Rebecca in 1964. When they were first married, they lived on the Johnson place east of Cozad and in 1964, bought the farm northeast of Lexington.
John spent most of his life doing what he loved which was farming. He enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was focusing his time on projects around the farm or working on his beloved garden and doing yard work. When he wasn’t busy working outside, he enjoyed spending quality time at the Grand Generation Center and was an avid pool player. John attended the Cozad Church of Christ where he was a former member of the church board. Eventually, he became a regular member of the LexChristian Church. John will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family.
He is survived by his son, Monte Johnson of Cozad and his daughter, Rebecca (Jeff) Ouellette of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lola; two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Cozad with Pastor David Haines and Pastor Dave Leraaen officiating. The Service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Burial with military honors will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad.
Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ in Cozad or LexChristian Church in Lexington.
