It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmie Lee Grandon, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on January 19, 2025, at his home in Lexington, Nebraska. Born on June 8, 1956, in Grand Island, Nebraska, Jim’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering love for family and friends, as well as his enduring spirit even in the face of a long-term illness.
Jim was a proud son of Donna Irwin and James Grandon. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jamie; his son, Nathan; his grandson, Ethan; and granddaughter, Arianne. He is also reunited in spirit with his father, James; mother, Donna; and grandmother, Evelyn Magnuson. Jim leaves behind a loving wife, Nancy Grandon, whom he married on June 12, 1981, in Wichita, Kansas. Together, they shared 43 wonderful years filled with laughter, love, and mutual support.
A devoted father, Jim is survived by his children: Nichole, Jeremy (Isela), Nicholas (Sally), Adam, Selena, Anna, Melissa, and Dustin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Maximas, Damian, and Betty Lane, who brought him immense joy in his later years. Jim was also a loving brother to Cathy (Jerry) Miller, Teresa Reinertson, Tammy (Ron) Jurgensen, Timothy (Ezell) Grandon, and Tom (Kim) Grandon. In addition to his siblings, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Jim.
Jim's educational journey began in the public and private schools of Grand Island, where he cultivated a love for learning that would stay with him throughout his life. Following his education, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 25, 1973, to July 30, 1976, aboard the USS Constellation (CV-64) in the V-2 Division, where he developed a deep sense of camaraderie and duty.
Professionally, Jim built a successful career starting with IBP in September 1992. He remained with the company as it transitioned to Tyson Fresh Meats, dedicating 32 years of hard work and commitment until his passing. Jim was known for his strong work ethic, resilience, and eagerness to lend a helping hand to his colleagues.
Outside of work, Jim was a man of many interests. He cherished spending time with his family, whether it was through simple gatherings or grand celebrations. Jim was a fun-loving man, always wearing a warm smile that brightened the lives of those around him. His zest for life and his ability to make people laugh will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to assist with expenses incurred from Jim's long-term medical care. Your generosity will help ease the burden during this difficult time.
