James W. “JJ” Block, 70, of Lexington, NE passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Cozad Community Hospital.
Jim was born August 15, 1952, in Gothenburg, NE to James O. and Harriet (Tickle) Block. Jim graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1970. He was united in marriage, to the love of his life, Peggy Barnes on April 14, 1984, in Eddyville, NE. The couple made their home west of Lexington, NE in 1980.
Jim began his trucking career right after high school with Keiser Trucking. He then worked for Bud Small and Duane Schoneman, Justa Truck Trucking, Sunrise Trucking, Nebraska Salt and Grain, and MRK. He retired from trucking in 2018. After retirement, he did help Denkers and Reeds with harvest. On August 15, 2020, Jim lost his left arm in a horrific mowing accident. In April of 2022, Jim moved into Meadowlark Pointe’s Memory Care Unit, in Cozad.
Jim enjoyed golfing, gardening, and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball and football games. You could always find him on Friday nights cheering on a niece or nephew in one of their sports.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Peggy of Lexington, NE; his two cats Dawson and County; sisters, Charlotte (Lyle) Sitorius of Brady, NE, and Cynthia Cary of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; sister-in-law, Sharon (Tom) Kammerlohr of Parker CO, and sister-in-law, Betty (Curtis) Sargent of Cozad, NE; Brother-in-law, Kevin (Donna) Barnes of Sumner, NE and copious nieces and nephews, Raymond and Mary Sitorius of Brady, Randy and Debbie Sitorius of Topeka, Kansas, Richard and Jolene Sitorius of Brady, Shawn and Roberta Karchner of Brady, Ryan and Rebecca Sterns of Brady, Brad and Rebecca Cary of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Nathan and Melita Cary of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Ron and Betsy Bogie of Padroni, Colorado, Kurt and Terri Lovitt of Sumner, Larry and Ann Kammerlohr of Parker, Colorado, Linda and Trent Trampe of Amherst, Nebraska, Ethan and Courtney Barnes of Sumner, Cy and Shelby Barnes of Miller, Abby Dobbins, Jessica and Eddie Morales, as well as special friends, Dawn and Dave Dobbins, Tami and John Reynolds, Nicole Thorell and Kerry and Cris Teetor.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Everett and Vivian Barnes, brother-in-law Jan Olsen, and a great nephew Talon Trampe.
