Grace B. Markus, 98, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at her home.
She was born on November 27, 1922 in Poole, Nebraska to Joseph and Marie (Seifert) Schuller. Grace received her education from Pleasanton Public Schools, graduating from Pleasanton High School with the class of 1941. Following high school, Grace worked at the Kearney Air Base until WWII ended.
On August 28, 1945, she was united in marriage to Maynard H. Markus at Kearney, Nebraska and the couple were blessed with three children: Terrence, Susan and Robyn. The family made their home north of Kearney where they farmed. Maynard unexpectedly passed away on March 4, 1967, Grace devoted her time raising her children and managing the farm. Grace also worked at a Ceramic Shop near Kearney and was at the Tel-Star Motel in Kearney.
In 1986, Grace moved to Lexington, Nebraska to be closer to family. She enjoyed keeping a beautiful yard and always had a fresh bouquet of flowers on her table from her flower garden. Grace kept herself busy knitting, tatting and quilting. She also enjoyed staying active in exercise classes and was a member of Weight Watchers for many years. Grace always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family, church, and faith were always an important part of her life.
Grace was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.
Survivors include her children, Terry Markus of Kearney, Susan (Ron) Fagot of Lexington and Robyn (Kurt) Lauer of Wooster, Ohio; three grandchildren, Todd (Heather) Fago of York, Nathan (Kaleigh) Fago of Omaha and Kristopher Lauer of Wooster, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Jazzlyn Lauer of Wooster, Ethan Fago of York and Finn Fago of Omaha; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Schuller of Ravenna and Donna Hartford of Kearney; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maynard; two brothers, Frank and Lawrence and five sisters, Mary, Tony, Alice, Margie and Merna.
A Private Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Father Matt Koperski, officiating. The Mass will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.
A Private Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery at Kearney.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
