Esther Mae Nierman, 83, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on December 4, 2022 at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.
Esther was born in Helena, Montana on September 19, 1939, to George and Betty (Maiers) Martel. Esther graduated from Missoula County High School in Missoula, Montana with the class of 1957. She went on to further her education and eventually received a Master’s degree in education from Kearney State College in 1981. Esther taught elementary education for 32 years. Most of her career was spent teaching kindergarten in the Cozad Public School system.
On December 25, 1961, Esther was united in marriage to Norman Nierman. Two boys were blessed to this union, Scott and Todd.
Esther had been a devout member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since 1961. She enjoyed attending church where she would play the piano during services and was also a member of the choir. She was also a part of the Christian Women’s Group and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. During her free time, she loved bike riding and swimming. She was an avid reader and crafter. Scrapbooking was one of her favorite hobbies. Esther loved knitting, collecting tea pots and when she wasn’t playing the piano during church, she was teaching others how to play.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Betty; husband, Norman; and sister, Jewel Lawson.
Left to celebrate her life are her sons, Scott (Laurie) Nierman of Lexington, Nebraska and Todd (Brenda) Nierman of Bennington, Nebraska; grandchildren, Eric (Toni) Howard, Andy (Katherine) Howard, Trevor (Sima) Nierman, Emily (Dominic) Nierman and Zoey Nierman, as well as three great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating. The service will be livestreamed online via the Trinity Lutheran Church website at http://tlclex.org
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.
Interment will be held at the Cozad Cemetery in Cozad, Nebraska.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
