Edward Robert Jenkins, 84, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in his home at Johnson Lake, Nebraska, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those he cherished.
He was born on June 18, 1940, in Sargent, Nebraska to Robert and Naomi (Nyberg) Jenkins. He attended school in Omaha and graduated from Omaha South High School with the class of 1958. On May 25, 1963, Edward was united in marriage to the love of his life, Charlanne Kleve at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. Two children were later blessed to this union: Kimberly and Kevin. In 1976, Edward and Charlanne moved into a cabin at the lake and never looked back.
Edward was a man of few words, yet his presence spoke volumes. He had an incredible talent for being meticulous and organized in every aspect of his life, especially with his work. Edward was a jack of all trades. He was a carpenter, architect, and a master craftsman. He worked diligently for days on end to create beautiful homes for others and has three homes that he built that still stand today in Japan. His careful nature reflected in every aspect of his being, yet it was his selflessness that defined him. Edward always prioritized the needs of others over his own, never hesitating to lend a helping hand whenever someone asked. His handshake was his binding commitment to you, and he always kept his word.
Edward took great joy in spending time with his loved ones, particularly during family vacations to Lake McConaughy. Boating, camping, and deer hunting with his grandkids were treasured moments that solidified the family bond. Edward's intelligence was profound, and those who had the honor of engaging with him understood the weight behind his thoughtful insights. His heart, though protective, was of pure gold. He embodied a gentle strength, and his love knew no bounds, particularly when it came to their dogs, including five lap dogs, who were undoubtedly more spoiled than his children. Edward never hesitated to sneak them some ice cream now and again. He was a devoted husband, father, and Papa, who will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Charlanne Jenkins of Johnson Lake; children, Kimberly (Jeff) Norblade of Papillion, Nebraska, and Kevin (Rhonda) Jenkins of Grand Island; grandchildren, Jared Norblade, Tate Norblade, Riley (Zach) Sanne, and Taylor Jenkins; as well as extended family and many friends.
Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jose Chavez, officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Grand Island Cemetery.
