Dorothy Kay Hawk, 76, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021, at her son’s home in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by family.
Dorothy was born on February 13, 1945, near Isabel, South Dakota, one of twelve children to Harvey and Rose (Burkley) Hill. She was raised on a farm and attended school in South Dakota. While living in South Dakota, Dorothy met Margo Martinez and was united in marriage. Five children were blessed to this union: Tammie, Joe, Greg, John and Ed. Their marriage would later end in divorce.
Dorothy then met John “Jack” Hawk and spent several years riding with him over the road as a Truck Driver. She was united in marriage in March of 1976 to John “Jack” Hawk. They made their home in Ord, Nebraska, Wyoming, Iowa, and then settled in Texas. Dorothy also managed motels and working in Home/Health. Jack died in 1996 in Columbus, Texas, and Dorothy moved to Overton, Nebraska to be closer to family.
Dorothy and Jack played lots of Bingo in their younger years and they enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. They enjoyed camping and taking the kids out boating on the weekends. Dorothy also liked to crochet and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She leaves to celebrate her life; her children, Tammie Zediker of Overton, Joe Martinez of Omaha, Greg Martinez of Overton, John (Candy) Martinez of Overton, and Ed Martinez of Omaha; six step-children, John Hawk of Denison, Iowa, Rick (Paula) Hawk of Arizona, Randy (Teresa) Hawk of Omaha, Dee Dee (Melvin) Totten of Denison, Iowa, Teresa Miller of Burwell and Steve Hawk of Burwell; one brother, Ted (Zelma) Hill of Nisland, South Dakota; two sisters, Loretta Hill of Troy, New York and Rachel Rosenau of Gillette, Wyoming; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; step-daughter, Sandy Swanson; five brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law, Jeff Zediker.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Orchard Hill Cemetery near Orchard, Nebraska with Lonna Grabenstein, Chaplain, ruralMed Home Health and Hospice, officiating.
