Doris E. Martin, 80, of Callaway passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020, at the Callaway District Hospital. She was born on September 2, 1939 in Oconto, Nebraska to Rosco and Lydia (Elston) Martin. Doris received her education from Oconto Public Schools, and graduated from Oconto High School with the class of 1957. Doris moved to Cozad and worked at the Cozad Community Hospital as a kitchen aide until the birth of her daughter. She then started watching children in her home. In 1981 she moved to Oconto and Doris then moved in 1990 when her daughter started high school to Callaway. She was a member of the Callaway United Methodist Church and was part of the UMW. Doris enjoyed crafting, sewing, gardening and quilting. She embroidered many quilts for her family. She was known for her homemade sugar cookies with frosting and she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Jenny (Josh) Bayne of North Platte; her three grandchildren, Bryanne, Kycin and Rykur of North Platte; daughters of her heart, Noelle (Bret) Burns of Lincoln, Megan (Bob) Aue of Newman Grove and Danielle Hendricks of Broken Bow; brother, Ruben Martin of Overton; sister-in-law, Lee Martin of Kearney; four nephews, Steve (fiancé Angie Davis) Martin of Oconto, Andy Martin of Callaway, Ben (Laurie) Martin of Elm Creek and Pat (Ashley) Martin of Overton; 11 Grandchildren of the heart, special friends, Dan (Kim) Hendricks of Callaway; also survived extended family and a host of friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gifford. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church with Pastor Shanon Williams, officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church. Following the traditional funeral service, cremation will take place and burial will be held at a later date in the Oconto Cemetery at Oconto.
