Dale Ernest Hild, 89, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.

He was born on September 30, 1935, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to Ernest and Doris (Franke) Hild. He had unwavering faith and when he was young he was baptized and confirmed through the Lutheran Church in Louisville. He attended public school in Plattsmouth. In 1957, Dale joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country. Following his discharge, Dale moved back home where he helped his dad on the farm. On June 9, 1962, Dale was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rachel Garringer, at Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church in Louisville, Nebraska. Four children were blessed into this union: Mike, Doug, Ricky, and Janet. The couple lived in Louisville until 1976 when they moved to the Kearney/Elm Creek area. In 1989, the family moved to Columbus, then Kearney, and finally made their home in Cozad. 

Dale dedicated many years to working for Cornland Beef Dressing and Excel in the loading docks. Dale was a family man and greatly enjoyed spending his days with his family, going on camping and fishing trips, or watching the Royals. He had unwavering faith and was set to join the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. In his later years, Dale enjoyed working on crafts at the Central Nebraska Veterans' Home in Kearney.

Those left to honor his memory are his children, Mike Hild of Cozad, Doug (Deb) Hild of Elm Creek, and Janet (Craig) McCollum of Columbus; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ron (Dixie) Hild of Omaha and Richard Hild of Sante Fe, New Mexico; brothers-in-law, Jerry Garringer of Holdrege, Keith Garringer of Kearney, and Jamie Trampe of Elm Creek; sisters-in-law, Thelma Sturgeon of Bellevue, Mary Garringer of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Pat Hild of Surprise, Arizona; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel; his son, Ricky; brothers, Robert, LeRoy and Herb; sister, Betty; grandson, Jeff Hild and sisters-in-law, Fay (Mike) Crow, Rhonda Trampe and Connie Garringer; brothers-in-law, Harlan Garringer and Don Sturgeon.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney with Pastor Tim Barone, officiating. The service will be live-streamed via the Holy Cross Kearney Youtube Page. https://www.youtube.com/@HolyCrossKearney

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 9-11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. 

Following the Funeral Service, cremation will take place, and the burial will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington.

Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
