Beryl Irene Knotwell, 99, of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Ridgeway Senior Living in Lexington, Nebraska.
She was born on July 19, 1924, in McCook, Nebraska to Frank and Mabel (Cart) Hamilton. She attended McCook public schools and graduated from McCook Senior High School with the class of 1942. She transitioned to McCook Community College where she met the love of her life, Otis "Knotty" Knotwell. The two were united in marriage on August 25, 1946, at the First Baptist Church in McCook, Nebraska. Six children were blessed to this union: Carol, Barb, Colleen, JoAnn, Patti, and James.
After Beryl's first year of college, she did clerical work in the flight surgeon's office at the Air Base hospital in McCook as well as helping at the McCook Handi Kitchen. Once the family moved to Wauneta, Nebraska, Beryl began working for Federal Land Bank then transitioned to the meat department at Walgren's before committing 17 years to being the Wauneta Village Clerk until retirement. When she had time to spare, she enjoyed quilting with her quilt guild.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Carol (Steve) Thompson of Wauneta, Barb (Gordan) Hinrichs of Lexington, Colleen Goings of Elsie, Patti (Lonnie) Kitt of Schuyler, and James Knotwell of Wauneta; grandchildren, Tony (Jolene) Muths, Justin Teply, Jeremy Teply, Jeff (Susan) Hinrichs, Jessica (Ryan) Linscott, Bradley (Kathryn) Goings, Billy Goings, Casey (John) Bailey, Carrie (Bryan) Kearney, Griffin Knotwell, Hollis Knotwell, Kellen Knotwell, Max Knotwell, and Richelle (Dan) Lindner; as well as 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Besides her parents, Beryl was preceded in death by her husband, Otis "Knotty" Knotwell; daughter, JoAnn Thorman; sons in law, Dennis Goings and Dwayne Muths; siblings, Kenneth Hamilton, Lenora (Cliff) Cobb and Dean (Irene) Hamilton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Wauneta Methodist Church in Wauneta, Nebraska.
Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta, Nebraska.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the Wauneta Senior Center.
