Bernard Woodside, 82, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on January 20, 2025.
Bernard Arthur Woodside was born September 24,1942 in Lexington, Nebraska to Harold and Rosa (Schwarz) Woodside. He was one of 12 children. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1962. Bernard earned 2 associates degrees, Architectural Drafting and Cabinetry, from Central Nebraska Technical College in Hastings. He was named in the Who’s Who of Junior Colleges.
Bernard was united in marriage to Judy Quincy at the Chapel of the Lake, at Johnson Lake on August 7, 1975. He was the proud father of 5 children who were very important to him. Bernard lived most of his life in Lexington and Holdrege, Nebraska but also lived in California, Arizona, and North Carolina.
Bernard was a carpenter and contractor throughout his life. Building houses, roofing, cabinetry, and doing projects kept him busy. He loved helping and teaching others how to do these things. Many of his children and grandchildren learned to shingle next to him!
As an adolescent, Bernard worked at the Ice Plant cutting ice from the river and setting pins at the bowling alley. He loved competing with everyone especially his brothers. He enjoyed hunting pheasants, bowling, horseshoes, poker, and endless games of marbles. He spent many hours reading and watching westerns, doing puzzles and sudoko, and working in his yard. Bernard loved morning coffee and afternoon cokes with his McDonald’s coffee crew.
Bernard was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington and was a member at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege. He found strength and comfort in his faith and Jesus.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Judy; his children Kim (Terry)Tvrdy, Ross (Traci) Woodside, James Woodside, and Jessica (Jerry) Carbaugh. His grandchildren Lacey (Dustin) Johannes, Zac Woodside, Josh (Megan) Tvrdy, Jake Woodside, Victoria (Dakota) Woodside, Courtney (Peyton) Schmidt, and Preston (Marissa) Carbaugh. Great Grandchildren include Ayden, Bella, Zaydalin, Zebadiah, Aubrielle, Jackson, and one on the way. One bother Wayne (Pat) Woodside and two sister-in-laws Rita Woodside and Deb Bishop. Along with many nieces, nephews, and bonus grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Matthew, one granddaughter, Addison, his parents; and siblings, Dorothy, Leonard, Terry, Dick, Delbert, Lena, Viola, Paul, Leroy, and Mick. His in-Laws Chester & Kay Quincy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Kenton Birtell, officiating.
A Memorial Book Signing with family present will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Burial will take place following the meal at Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge, Nebraska.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
