Arline A. Miles, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Arline was born March 31, 1928, to Albert and Crystal (Klinefelter) Wilken in Lexington, Nebraska. She started school when she was four along with her older brothers, she skipped kindergarten. She graduated from Elwood high School with the class of 1944, at the young age of sixteen. After graduation she became a teacher, deciding she wanted something more, she attended teletype school in Omaha. After her schooling she moved to Dayton, Ohio to work on an Air Force base. She became homesick and returned to Elwood.
On December 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to Larry J. Miles, to this union four children were born; Steve, Debra, Krystal and David. Arline worked as a telephone operator in Elwood and was a waitress on weekends at Sportsman Night Club, where Larry tended bar. She then was a telephone operator in Lexington and for the next forty-two years was a secretary-assistant at the Lexington office of the Nebraska State Department Of Roads. She retired when she was eighty-five years old.
Arline was a member of the Daughters Of The American Revolution for forty-two years and volunteered for Parent-Child Center's Crisis Line for twenty-five years. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and later Grace Lutheran Church. She was active in the church and attended the bible study circles.
Arline is survived by her children; Steve (Peggy) Miles of Alliance, Debra (Dave) Hatfield of Lexington, Krystal Miles (Tina Treboni) of Tucson, Arizona and David (Sarah) Miles of Omaha, grandchildren; Melanie (Mike) Gomez and their children Lindsey, Kaylee and Jackson, Scott Hatfield of Lexington,Taylor (Emma) Miles of Nashville, Tennessee Rachel Miles and fiancé Mike Walzyke, of Omaha and Kayla Miles of Denver, CO., two sisters; Dorothy Abbott of Omaha and Ruth Tilson of Berthoud, CO. as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Larry in 1997 and twin brothers; Keith and Calvin Wilken.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Erin Dunlavy and John Strackbein, P.M.A., officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Grace Lutheran Facebook page. Face coverings will be required at the church
The casket will be closed at the church and there will be no visitation.
Graveside services will be held that afternoon at the Hope Lutheran Cemetery east of Smithfield at 4:00 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Pinnacle Bank and will be donated to Parent Child Center, Dawson County Historical Museum or the Bonneville DAR Chapter.
