Angelita G. “Angie” Hernandez, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Avamere in Lexington.
She was born on March 12, 1934 in Lexington, Nebraska to Genaro and Filiberta (Godinez) Munoz. Angie attended public schools in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953. Being a Lexington Alum was always very important to Angie.
Angie was united in marriage to Joseph Hernandez on December 29, 1953 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Three children were blessed to this union: Gerry, Ed and Tricia. The family made their home in Lexington. When Gerry turned 13, Angie went to work as a florist at Lee’s Flower shop. She used her trade to create the wedding flowers for her niece’s weddings. Because she was a good seamstress, she made most of Gerry’s clothes including outfits for her dolls. She then worked for Reach Electronics, Tri-County Hospital and the Holiday Inn Express, where she always looked forward to working and visiting with people at the events in the conference center.
From the time of her Baptism in April of 1934, she was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She was a proud member of the VFW Auxiliary and a 60 year member of the Penny Pincher Extension Club.
She was very active at the Grand Generation Center where she enjoyed making pretzels, exercising, and visiting with her friends. Her grandchildren were her joy and she enjoyed attending as many of their activities as possible. She also liked working in her flower garden.
Angie will always be remembered for her love and pride of her family. Her smile and contagious laughter filled every room she entered. She never missed the chance to attend a social event.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Joe of Lexington; her daughters, Gerry Hernandez of Broomfield, Colorado and Tricia (Scott) Latter of Holdrege; daughter-in-law, Dawne (Bill Haines) Hernandez of Lexington; five grandchildren, Casey Skiles of Jackson, Wyoming, Nathan Hernandez of Grand Island, Trevor (Kelsey) Hallan of Lexington, Dakota Hernandez of Kearney and Joel (Ali) Latter of Holdrege; five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Zach, Ezekiel, Bennett and River; sister-in-law, Helen Munoz of Lincoln and brother-in-law, Tom (Emily) Hernandez of Kearney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
