Alfred H Kuck, 91, of Smithfield, Nebraska passed away December 4, 2022 at Lexington Regional Health Center, Lexington.
Alfred was born October 29, 1931, on the farm in Gosper County, Nebraska to Herman and Gladys (Stine) Kuck. Alfred attended school at District 14 in Gosper County until he graduated the 8th Grade to help on the family farm and eventually received his GED.
He met and married Marie Wilcox from McCook, Nebraska on April 27, 1951 in McCook, Nebraska at the Baptist Church. Alfred and Marie made their home south of Smithfield after their marriage until 1994 when they moved to Smithfield, NE. To the union were born 4 children, twins, Ronald & Donald, Jerry and Ann.
Alfred farmed on the family farm until the mid-eighties. For many years, he was a Registered Brangus breeder. His prize cattle included his brangus bull, Jed and brahma bull, Hudge. He then started working for Herb Wendland in Arapahoe, NE for the next few years until he started his own land-leveling business, Kuck Construction, which he ran until he retired in the late nineties.
Alfred loved his family; especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved Husker Volleyball, was the best storyteller, and loved America. In his younger years, he loved hunting and spent many years coyote hunting with his sons, grandkids, and friends. Alfred and Marie loved auctions, collecting antiques, and spent 20 years as antique dealers. He loved spending time in his shop and sharing his many creations. Some of his most recent favorite things included inventing bird feeders that outsmarted the squirrels and his annual combine ride during harvest.
Alfred was preceded in death by his infant son, Ronald Dean; son, Donald; his parents, Herman & Gladys; his in-laws, Charles & Bessie Wilcox; and his brother, Bruce Kuck.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marie of Elwood, NE; son Jerry Kuck of Elwood and daughter Ann Johnson and her husband Scott of Elwood; sister Lola Davison and husband Mark of Smithfield, NE; sister-in-law Betty Jussel of Grand Island, NE; sister-in law Doris Ruppert of McCook, NE. Also surviving Alfred are 9 grandchildren; Kelli (Josh) Marshall, Jeremy Kuck, Eric Kuck, Ryan Kuck, Amy (Brandon) Stritt, Brad Wolfe, Andrew (Bethanne) Kuck, Emily (Jay) Weber, and Aaron Johnson, and 14 great-grandchildren; Ashlyn, Wilson, Clayton, Preston, Bellamie, Jordan, Haley, Teagan, Nolan, Kyler, Addison, Aviana, Bentley, Reagan, and Walter the dog; and many numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska, with Pastor Sarah Neben, officiating. The service will be live streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Elwood Cemetery in Elwood, Nebraska.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
