Richard L. “Dick” Carr, 70, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Dick was born December 5, 1939, at Parma, Idaho to Robert H. “Bob” and Dorothy (Koehn) Carr. He moved with his family to Lexington as a young boy and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1958. He was a member of the 1957 football team which resulted in his induction to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame. His teammates always remained in his highest esteem. During school he was employed by Pfeiffer-Newman Funeral Home. After leaving the funeral home he spent an adventurous two years in Alaska which family and friends were privileged to hear a few good stories about now and then.
Upon returning to Lexington he began selling insurance. He spent a number of years and was known for his skills in wood finishing, making custom golf clubs, house painting and finance.
He wed Ruth Snurr, the love of his life, on February 5, 1961, in Lexington at the United Methodist Chapel. To this union were born two daughters, Crystal & Kim. He was blessed with five grandchildren who had him wrapped around their little fingers.
Dick was known as a tough man’s man with a quirky sense of humor, but those who knew him well were aware that he was a soft-hearted man. He was Ruth’s Rock of Gibraltar throughout her cancer treatments. Many people came to him with their problems seeking advice or even assistance with bail. He was also known to voice his opinions whether popular or not. This is a trait that is now associated with the rest of the family.
