Thurman Eugene “Mr. T” Myers, 100, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Grand Island Veteran’s Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.
He was born January 31, 1910, at Platter, Oklahoma in the Indian Territory to Elic and Sally (McKamey) Myers. Thurman was one of 12 children. They had a hard life living through the depression, but also had a good life with his family he loved dearly. He was born with good health and had a great lifespan to live to celebrate his 100th birthday, what a good time he had!
Thurman was united in marriage to Jewell L. Holder in 1929, in Oklahoma. Five children were born to this union; Pauline, Lorene, Gene, Charles & Don.
Thurman was proud of his service to his Country during WWII in the United States Navy. Serving from 1942, until being honorably discharged in 1945. He moved his family to Lexington in 1951, and worked in the shop at the Hay Mill and also did carpentry work.
He enjoyed wrestling, fishing, bingo and all sports. He lived in his own home and drove his own car until 2006, when he moved to Park Avenue Estates, then to Plum Creek Care Center and his last stop, in 2008, at the Grand Island Veteran’s Home. He will be so missed, but his memories will live on forever.

Don (Wanda) Myers of Kearney, Nebraska
Eighteen grandchildren, many great and great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
One brother: Hollis Myers of Verden, Oklahoma
One sister: Geneva Wells of Mead, Oklahoma
Special granddaughter: Gloria Crocket of Whitewright, Texas
Special Friend: Shirley Lobdell of Lexington, Nebraska
Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Jack, Eual, Bill & Lester; sisters, Nadine, Opal, Faye & Neoma; sons-in-law, Jake Claborn and Chuck Jones.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with Reverend John Craig officiating.
Burial will be in the Hewitt Cemetery at Lexington with Military Honors graveside.
There will be no visitation, but the casket will be opened prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
