Nova Jewell (Workman) Barmore, 78, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born July 19, 1931, at Lexington, Nebraska to John Hardy and Myrl Sylvia (Hine) Greathouse.
Nova attended school at Lexington. She was united in marriage to Richard Lee Workman on June 12, 1951 at Lexington. Richard preceded her in death on November 1, 1990. She then found love again and was united in marriage to Richard W. Barmore on May 1, 2004 at Lexington. He too preceded her in death on September 3, 2007.
Nova was always a hard worker and a wonderful community minded person. She worked at Monroe Auto in Cozad, Nebraska; owned and operated Workman’s Residential Care Facility, the Southside Market and Green Valley Motel. She was the activities assistant at Plum Creek Care Center for several years and even made bathing suits for the Miss America Pageant.
She attended Lexington Christian Church, was a member of the Tri-County Hospital Auxiliary, Lexington Chamber of Commerce Diplomats, and the Lexington Soroptimist Club.
Nova was a “people person” and so enjoyed volunteering at the Grand Generation Center . She was on the steering committee and was instrumental in bringing the Labor Day Antique Extravaganza to Lexington, which is enjoyed by many folks to this day. She absolutely loved to volunteer, but her most precious moments were spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters: Alice & husband Leo Hinkle of Beaver City, Nebraska
Sondra & husband Layne Becker of Lexington, Nebraska
Two stepsons: Rick & wife Mary Barmore of Lexington, Nebraska
David & wife Deb Barmore of Omaha, Nebraska
One stepdaughter: Kerry & husband Thomas Madigan of Lakewood, Colorado
One brother: Russell Greathouse of Lexington, Nebraska
Six grandchildren: Brian and Scott Hinkle of Chicago, Illinois; Fletcher and Jillian Becker of Lexington, Nebraska; Richie Workman of Rushville, Nebraska and Jennifer Workman of Fort Collins, Colorado as well as step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Sister-in-law: Naomi Workman of Lexington, Nebraska as well as nieces; Jane and John Kirby, Bobbie and Wayne Hubbard, and Nancy and John Slack.
One nephew: Russell “Hardy” & wife Tina Greathouse of Lexington, Nebraska
Nova was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one son, Charles in 1997 and a sister-in-law, Helen.
The Family has honored Nova’s wishes that her body be cremated.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church with Pastor Kyron C. BeDunnah officiating.
Inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center or Lexington Christian Church.
