Peggy Joan Bowers, 73, of 44 Mallard Beach Drive, Johnson Lake, Nebraska, died at Good Samaritan Hospital on April 17, 2010. Peggy Joan was born on June 13, 1936, at Litchfield, Nebraska to Glen Henry Archer and Lourene Irene Bearnth. She received her education at District 30 and Seedling Mile Schools in Grand Island . She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1953. She married Glenn Bowers, Jr. on October 1, 1954, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple resided in rural Grand Island where they raised their five daughters, and babysat many children. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers also managed a KOA Campground in Gothenburg, Nebraska for seven years, returning to Grand Island in 1987 where she was employed at Goodwill Industries as store manager until 1992. Mr. Bowers retired in October 1992 where the couple moved to Johnson Lake in the summer and wintered in Black Canyon City, Arizona. Peggy loved to garden, take care of her yard, cook for her family and friends, drink coffee, and counsel others. She courageously fought cancer. Her survivors include her husband of nearly 56 years Glenn Bowers, Jr. of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; five daughters; Terri (Neal) Feldman of North Platte, Nebraska, Cheryl (Calvin) Richardson of Lexington, Nebraska; Janet Weber of Grand Island, Nebraska, Janine Stearns of Lincoln, Nebraska and Peggy (Bryan) Wright of Canton, Ohio. Peggy has eleven grandchildren; Brandon Neth, Ryan Bowers, Jonathan Wright, Kyle Schwedes, Matthew Richardson, Nathan Richardson, Holly Wright, Savannah Stearns, Tyler Stearns, Summer Halm and Ana Richardson. Twelve great-grandchildren; Austin Tenborg, Jeremiah Neth, Jonathan Neth, Anna Kruse, Navaeh Richardson, Brayden Richardson, Serena Hemmingson, Mya Hemmingson, Katana Schwedes, Aaliyah Bowers, Amiaya Bowers and Kaleah Wright. She is also survived by two brothers Ronald Archer and Larry (Diane) Archer of Grand Island, Nebraska; and two sisters Mrs. Jack (Virginia) Zlomke and Kathryn Hansen both of Grand Island. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, countless friends, and her neighbor dog, Zebbie, with whom she ate breakfast with daily. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth, James, Jack, Richard, and Gary Archer and Donald Strong, one sister, Betty Evans and one brother-in-law, Don Hanson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2010, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Johnson Lake EMS or Dawson County Relay for Life. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
