Velma Jean Wadkins

Velma Jean Wadkins, 86, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her home in Lexington. She was born October 31, 1923, at Phillips, Nebraska, to Ernest E. and Lina J. (Tucker) Walker. She was united in marriage to Fahy Wadkins on November 2, 1940, at York, Nebraska. Fahy preceded Velma in death on February 19, 2008. Velma and Fahy lived most of their married lives in Phillips where Fahy was Postmaster and Velma worked as a postal Clerk for 23 years. After retirement they lived in Yuma, Arizona for 10 years, Grand Island for 5 years and then moved to Lexington on March 20, 1999, to be near family. Velma was a 60+ year member of the Phillips Methodist Church in Phillips. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, doing latchhook and camping. She was a wonderful mother and always had a kind word for everyone. She will be so very missed. She is survived by three sons: Marion Wadkins of Grand Island, Nebraska Dennis & Jane Wadkins of Grand Island, Nebraska Douglas & Theresa Wadkins of Lexington, Nebraska One daughter: Marty Martin of Lawton, Oklahoma One sister: Wanda & Ken Culver of Sunnyside, Washington Five grandchildren: Kim Wadkins and husband Todd Meyer of Gibbon, Nebraska Butch & Jennifer Evans of Grand Island, Nebraska Patrick & Michael Wadkins of Lincoln, Nebraska Amy & Steve Whitefoot of Atoka, Tennessee Ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Burl, Delbert & Vernon, one sister, Lois and one great-granddaughter, Christyna. The Family has honored Velma’s wishes that her body be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Memorial Cemetery at Phillips, Nebraska with Reverend Marta Wheeler officiating. The family has requested memorials to the Tri-County Hospital Hospice or the Donor’s Choice. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
