Joseph “J.T.” Smith, 93, of Smithfield/Bertrand, Nebraska area died Friday, January 1, 2010, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington, Nebraska.
He was born February 22, 1916, at Royston, Georgia, to Will and Martha (Roberts) Smith.
J.T. was united in marriage to Blanche Cleo Freeman on October 7, 1939, in Greenville, South Carolina. Five children were blessed to this marriage: Tommy, Hilda, Sharon, Dan and Robbin.
Joseph and Blanche lived in South Carolina until 1969 when they moved to Smithfield, Nebraska. J.T. spent most of his life trucking.
After Blanche died in 1991, continued to live in Smithfield until 2001. He then moved to Methodist Homes in Holdrege and later moved to Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
He enjoyed wood working, was a good mechanic, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He also loved his trucking. J.T. will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two sons: Tommy and wife Ronnie of Lexington, Nebraska
Dan and wife Helen Smith of Simpsonville, South Carolina
Three daughters: Hilda Wilken of North Platte, Nebraska
Sharon and husband Kenneth Keith of Fountain Inn, South Carolina
Robbin and husband Bill Allerheiligen of Harvard, Illinios
One sister; Glaydell Henderson of Greenville, South Carolina
Fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren
Numerous nieces and nephews
J.T was preceded in death by his parents, wife Blanche in 1991, three brothers, two grandsons; Greg and Tony, and one son-in-law Doug Wilken.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah officiating.
Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 3, 2010, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
