Josephine D. McDonald, 91, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Overton, Nebraska died Friday, December 25, 2009, at the St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.
She was born May 20, 1918, at Overton, Nebraska, to Nick Thomas and Elizabeth Mae (Wengler) Thinnes. She attended school in Overton and graduated from Overton High School in 1936.
Josephine was united in marriage to Floyd McDonald on April 29, 1943 in Elm Creek, Nebraska. Five children were blessed to this union; Janet, Robert, Peggy, Dan and Marilyn.
Josephine and Floyd farmed most of their life until Floyd’s passing in 1981, and then Josephine continued the farming operation.
Josephine was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society.
She enjoyed doing embroidery, canning, gardening and attending her children’s school activities.
Josephine was an extremely hard worker, but always had time and enjoyed being with her family. When she was an active member of the Altar society, she made banners for the church and she also read books to school kids at Bryan Elementary School in Lexington.
Survivors include her two sons: Robert and wife Patricia McDonald of Bellevue, Nebraska
Dan and wife Barb McDonald of Overton, Nebraska
Three daughters: Janet and husband Jerry Schroeder of Lexington, Nebraska
Peggy and husband Randy Carpenter of Lexington, Nebraska
Marilyn and husband Ron Crandell of St. Cloud, Minnesota
Eighteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren
Two sisters: Elizabeth Earl of Elm Creek, Nebraska
Eileen Lauby of Lexington, Nebraska
Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, one granddaughter Michele, five brothers and seven sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with Father Paul Colling officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 28, 2009, from 6-7 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton.
Rosary will be held Monday, December 28, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton.
Memorials are suggested to the Overton Volunteer Fire Department or Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
