Dwight L. Lord, 94, of Callaway, Nebraska, formerly of McCool Junction, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Callaway District Hospital.
Dwight Lee Lord was born October 5, 1915 in McCool Jct., the eldest son of R.F. and Gladys (Bellows) Lord. He attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in January, 1938. He was united in marriage to Doris Turner on January 30, 1938. She preceded him in death April 7, 1997. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, worked in a defense plant and taught school in Dixon, Illinois, managed grain elevators in McCool Jct. and Callaway and farmed near McCool.
He retired from the Callaway Co-op Elevator in 1977 and pursued the activity of woodworking, making redwood clocks, lamps and tables. Also during retirement he spent a lot of time with a fishing pole in his hands. Dwight along with his brothers and son Bob would travel to Pine Dale, Wyoming each year for a week of trout fishing.
Dwight was always active in his community and church, serving on the School Board at both McCool Jct. and Callaway and serving as president at McCool Jct. He was a member of the town board of Callaway and a member of the Lions Club. He taught Sunday school at Callaway for many years and was a member of the early Saturday morning Bible Study Group. Dwight loved all sports and was one of the most avid Cornhusker fans in the quietest sort of way. He very seldom missed any Cornhusker sports event either on television or radio.
Those left to honor his memory are sons:
