Ronald E. Salleng, 64, of Cozad, Nebraska, died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad.
He was born August 12, 1945, at Lexington, Nebraska. Ron grew up and attended school in Cozad/Lexington and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1963. He managed the Phillips 66 service station in Cozad following graduation.
Ron was united in marriage to Lois Rainforth on August 27, 1965, in Cozad, Nebraska. The couple had one son, Eric.
In 1968, they moved to Tustin, California where Ron managed a service station until 1975. It was at this time they returned to Nebraska and owned and operated Norm’s Café and Dirt Cheap Saloon until selling the business in 1989. They then moved to Temecula, California and Ron and his brother operated a landscaping business.
In 2000, Ron and Lois returned to Nebraska and Cozad. Ron retired upon their move home because of health problems.
Ron loved to play golf and pitch at the Cozad Country Club. He also rooted for his Nebraska Cornhuskers, but most especially, spending time with his son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Quinn. The sun rose and set on Quinn.
Ron really never knew a stranger and always had time to visit folks who were sick and do a few errands and special projects for those in need. Perhaps it was his storytelling and kind-hearted attitude that just seemed to make people feel better. Ron will be very missed by his loving family and friends.
