Geraldine M. Vollmer, 91, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, September 4, 2017, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
She was born October 5, 1925, in Holbrook, Nebraska, to Quincy Carson and Mayme Elizabeth (Blackman) Eby. She grew up north of Arapahoe, Nebraska, moved to Elwood in 1934, then to Overton in 1936.
She was united in marriage to Fred Vollmer on January 20, 1945. Three daughters were blessed to this marriage; Janet, Janiece, and Jean. After the marriage, they moved to the Eddyville area. In 1950, they moved to a farm on east 13th Street in the Lexington area. They moved to town in 1989.
Geraldine was a former member of Fairhaven Baptist Church, and a current member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington. She was a past member of an Extension Club, The Thirteenth Club, Coffee Club, Sunday school teacher, as well as Bible School teacher, and bowled on bowling leagues for many years.
She loved to crochet, read, sew, and garden. Spending time with her family meant the world to her. She will be so missed.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet (Ray) Bitner of Overton, Nebraska, Janiece (Pat) Kelley of Gretna, Nebraska; one brother, Verle (Ellen) Eby of Overton, Nebraska; one sister, Bernece (Leo) Mazanec of Columbia, Missouri; six grandchildren, Steve (Beth) Kopf, Stephanie (Mike) Wigstone, Dean Bowling, Angie Bowling, Chris (Sarah) Kelley, and David Kelley; ten great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Norma Eby of Overton, Nebraska, Charlene Eby of Overton, Nebraska, and Evelyn Weaver of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Orvel Vollmer of Lexington, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; daughter, Jean Bowling; brothers, Gaylord, Floyd, Dick, Lonnie, and Donald Eby; three sisters, twins, Margaret and Margarette Eby, and Clarice Bamrick.
It was Geraldine’s wishes her body be cremated. The family has honored those wishes. There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Anne Gahn officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
