Avis M. McFarland, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska, formerly of Sumner, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
She was born November 7, 1918, in Sumner, Nebraska to Harry and Fern (Brown) Roper. She attended elementary school at Stone School and Sumner High School. Avis was united in marriage to Clifford “Mick” McFarland on March 2, 1934, at Norton, Kansas and to this union one son, Keith, was born. They were married just days short of 72 years. In May of 1996 Avis and Mick professed their faith in the Lord at a joint baptismal service.
Avis and Mick lived the majority of their married lives in the Sumner area farming and raising livestock. After leaving the farm Avis worked at Plectron in Overton for numerous years. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, crocheting, knitting, raising Himalayan cats, and canaries.
In 2001, Avis moved to Lexington to be near Mick. Her apartment at Wel-Life was only steps away from Mick’s room at Plum Creek Care Center. In January of 2009, due to declining health, Avis moved to Plum Creek Care Center where she spent her remaining days.
Her home was filled with family photos and just the mention of her loved ones always brought a smile to her face.
