Gladys Mary (Henry) Brown, 98, of Carpenteria, California, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska.
Gladys Mary Brown, much loved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully one day after her 98th birthday, August 28, 2009, with her son and daughter-in-law by her side.
Gladys was born on August 27, 1911, in Big Springs, Nebraska. She was the third child of David Henry and Mary L. Strickland Henry.
She lived 86 years in Nebraska, 30 of those years as a motel owner in Lexington, Nebraska and the past 12 years in Carpinteria, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth in 1997; beloved grandchildren Shannon Rae and Kelly Logan Brown in 1974; and sisters Nina Sherffius and Bernice Johnson, and brothers Marion and Clayton Henry.
She is survived by her sons, Kent Brown (Valerie) of California and Roger Brown of Kentucky; grandsons Ryan (Rachelle Fisher) of Oregon, Devin (Laurie Russell) of New Mexico and Casey (Leah) of California; and great-granddaughter, Lilikoi, of California. She also leaves behind 10 nieces, four nephews and two sisters-in-law.
She will be missed by all who were touched by her love, kind heart, wonderful sense of humor and friendship.
A celebration of Gladys’ life took place in Carpinteria, California on August 30, 2009.
Assisting with interment arrangements were Charles Carroll Funeral Home of Ventura, California and Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska. Interment is in Greenwood Cemetery, Lexington, Nebraska.
