January 7, 1936 — July 17, 2017

Gayle Jorgensen, 81, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Lexington Regional Health Center. She then graduated from Stanton High School in May, 1953. She enjoyed music classes, secretarial training, speech, and acting classes. She served as President of F.H.A. She sang solos for many groups in her early years. She attended Wayne State Teacher’s College in Wayne, Nebraska, and then the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she received her teaching degree. She taught 4th grade in Fremont, and Kindergarten in Lincoln schools. Gayle was married to Harvey Jorgensen of Curtis. The ceremony was August 12, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stanton. They lived in Lincoln, Columbus, Broken Bow, Curtis, Cozad, and Lexington. They were the parents of five children, 4 girls and 1 boy. Gayle was a stay-at-home mom for several years. She then was a substitute teacher, activity director at Curtis Nursing Home. She served as a caregiver at Park Avenue Estates, and volunteer Network Coordinator in Lexington, and 15 years as receptionist at the Grand Generation Center in Lexington. She loved the people. Her greatest joy was teaching Bible Study classes for most of her life, starting with Sunday school in high school and Christian Woman’s Club studies in the Curtis area. She also loved teaching Women’s classes at Parkview Baptist Church. She was active in Christian Women’s Club, Busy Homemakers and Penny Pincher’s Extension Clubs, and sang in the Curtis Easter Pageant for many years. Gayle had a smile that would light up the room, a kind disposition, and a loving family who loved her very much. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Jorgensen of Lexington, Nebraska; her children, Grant (Katya) Jorgensen of Beaver City, Nebraska, Kris (Randy) Lienemann of Loomis, Nebraska, Susan (Randy) Hatler of Tollhouse, California, Jayne Hasty of Evans, Colorado, and Julee (Charles) Colburn of Canton, Kansas; two brothers, Neal (Darlene) Pohlman of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Ken (Bev) Pohlman of Omaha, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and many friends.
