Harvey D. Hampton, 76, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at his home in Lexington following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born April 20, 1933, in Mullen, Nebraska, to Carlie and Cammie (Morrison) Hampton.
Harvey grew up in the sand hills area. He settled in the Lexington area in the 1960’s where he was a farm hand and mechanic for many area businesses.
As a gifted mechanic, Harvey was also busy fixing and diagnosing every type of mechanical engine from lawnmowers to trucks. When not getting his hands dirty, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by many.
Survivors include his daughters: Marla and husband Charlie Weber of Cozad, Nebraska.
Brenda and husband Randy Hoff of Mitchell, Nebraska.
Sons: Carlie Hampton of Mitchell, Nebraska.
Rodney and Dixie Hampton of Mitchell, Nebraska.
Brothers: Richard and wife Hilda Hampton of Culbertson, Nebraska
Bruce and Esther Hampton of McCook, Nebraska
Chester Hampton of Mitchell, Nebraska.
Special Friends and caregivers: Kelly and Bernard Smith and their children, Clint and Billie of Elwood, Nebraska, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Raymond, and brothers Kenneth and Peter.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Jeff Ernstmeyer officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Salem Cemetery near Elwood, Nebraska.
There will be no visitation. Harvey’s wishes were to be cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
