William “Larry” Saulsbury, 85, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at CHI Health - Good Samaritan in Kearney.
He was born July 15, 1931, in Overton, Nebraska, to William T. and Lucille A. (Morgan) Saulsbury. He attended school in Overton and graduated with the High School Class of 1949.
Larry was a proud member of the United States Navy, he enlisted on January 7, 1952, and was honorably discharged December 19, 1955. He served as a Seaman during the Korean Conflict in Panama.
He was united in marriage to Gerda Naumann on November 20, 1952, in Overton, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with seven children: Bill, Linda, Pam, Deb, Tom, Jerry & Tim. The family moved to Lexington in 1960.
Larry always kept himself busy with many jobs throughout his life. He started out farming, and hauling hay for his dad. He then worked at Burr Tire for a few years before he spent the next twenty five years at the Sears store. He then went to work for Western Auto and sold cars for Key Motors. Larry then found his niche for the next nineteen years working for the Handi-bus, and Ryde. He loved that job and the people he worked with, and they loved him.
Larry enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch. When he was younger he liked dancing, roller skating and swimming. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker sports fan. But most important to Larry was spending time with family. He loved attending family activities.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, and the American Legion.
Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Gerda of Lexington; four sons, Bill Saulsbury of Kearney, Nebraska, Tom (Kris) Saulsbury of Lexington, Nebraska, Jerry (Annie) Saulsbury of Lexington, Nebraska, and Tim Saulsbury of Kearney, Nebraska; three daughters, Linda (Mark) Beachy of Lexington, Nebraska, Pam (Kent) Swanson of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Deb (Phil) Morrison of Chapin, South Carolina; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren with two on the way; one sister, Jean McTygue of Kearney, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Doris Saulsbury of North Platte, Nebraska, Nadia Saulsbury of Oregon, Leigh Saulsbury of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Grace Grove of Florida, and Elfrieda Hintze of Minnesota; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A big family made for great Christmas and Easter celebrations.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Keith, Ed, and Richard; and brother-in-law, Bob McTygue.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Jose Chavez, officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 2, 2017, from 4-6 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. The family has requested all visitors wear casual attire, or your Husker red.
Burial with Military Honors will be in the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Donor’s Choice.
